Our breath shapes our experience of life, and our experiences shape the way we breathe.

We are born to breathe fully and freely, filling our lungs with life-giving oxygen and releasing stress and carbon dioxide. As children, we naturally breathe from the diaphragm, expanding our abdomen and embracing life with each breath. However, as we age and face challenges along the path, we unconsciously develop shallow breathing habits, tightening our bodies and holding our breath to avoid painful or unsafe emotions. Over time, these patterns become ingrained influencing functions in the body and the brain and in turn shaping our experiences in life. Serving as a bridge between the brain and body, the breath is offering direct insight into our current mental and physical state, as breathing patterns often reflect underlying belief patterns. But by mastering our breath, we master our lives.
